Original 1941 recipe

Roe and potatoes are ground once, worked with salt, flour, the beaten egg and spices. Formed into somewhat large steaks, which are coated in breadcrumbs and fried — not too hard — in butter or fat.
Nicely browned onion is placed over the steak. Serve with potatoes and raw beetroot salad.
Instead of onion, you can place a slice of lemon with a cleaned, rolled-up anchovy and capers around it; and at once you have "Roe Wienerschnitzel".
