Original 1900 recipe
Verbatim from the 1900 edition of the Cookbook for School and Home (Erken & Caroline Steen).

A historic 1900 cherry liqueur: sugar and water are boiled into a syrup and strained, then the cooled syrup is mixed with cherry juice, spirit and a few drops of bitter almond oil.

Boil the sugar syrup
Put the sugar and water over the heat, let boil for a quarter of an hour, skim well and strain.
Mix together
Once the syrup is cold, add the cherry juice, spirit and the almond oil.
