Original 1900 recipe
Verbatim from the 1900 edition of the Cookbook for School and Home (Erken & Caroline Steen).

Everyday jelly from Erken & Steen 1900: cordial or wine is mixed with water and sugar to taste, vanilla powder and gelatine dissolved in boiling water are added, and it is set in a mould until firm. Served with cream or custard.

En enkel, rimelig gelé til hverdags, laget på saft eller vin. Fra «Kogebog for skole og hjem» (1900) av Henriette Schønberg Erken og Caroline Steen.
Mix the liquids
Mix the wine or cordial with the water. Season with sugar as desired, and add the vanilla powder.
Dissolve the gelatine
Dissolve the gelatine in 200 ml (2 dl) boiling water.
Stir together
Add the dissolved gelatine to the cordial/wine mixture while stirring/whisking constantly.
Set to firm
Pour into a water-rinsed mould and place in the cold until the jelly is firm. Serve with cream or custard.
