Original 1900 recipe
Verbatim from the 1900 edition of the Cookbook for School and Home (Erken & Caroline Steen).

Lingonberry jam with apple from Erken & Steen 1900: 5 l lingonberries are layered with 2.5 kg sugar and a vanilla pod, the sugar is melted over low heat, 1 l sliced apples are added and everything is boiled until the apples are tender.

Layer berries and sugar
Layer the cleaned, washed lingonberries with the sugar in a preserving pan. Add the vanilla pod.
Melt the sugar gently
Set the pan over fairly low heat and let the sugar just barely melt.
Add the apples
When the sugar is almost melted, add the peeled, cut-up apples.
Boil until the apples are tender
Let it boil until the apple pieces are tender and the jam has thickened.
Fill into jars
Fill the hot jam into warm, dry jars and cover.
