1 pot of milk, 2 pounds of wheat flour and 10 øre of yeast are stirred together and set to ferment in a warm place.
Then add 3 spoons of sugar, 3 to 4 eggs, a little cardamom and about 0.5 mark of butter. Left again to rise.
Roll out as oblong loaves or in plaits, or if you wish (and if it is to be kept for a few days) in the shape of Christmas cakes, as it stays fresh longer that way.
The loaves are placed on the tray, brushed over with a little egg white (or sugar water) and sprinkled with coarsely crushed sugar and almonds, cinnamon or vanilla sugar, all to taste.
They are left to rise again before being put in the oven; baked until they take on a colour like ordinary Danish pastry.
The loaves are cut into suitable slices and served preferably warm. They can be freshened up in the oven without losing quality.
