English potatoes from 1900: potatoes scooped into balls with a potato scoop, boiled in salted water, tossed in cold butter and 1 tbsp finely chopped parsley.

Shape the potatoes
Wash and peel the potatoes and scoop out balls with a potato scoop.
Boil the potatoes
Put the potato balls in boiling, salted water and boil them tender.
Toss in butter and parsley
Pour off the water and gently toss the potatoes in cold butter and finely chopped parsley.
