The grains are set to soak the day before they are to be used, in 1/2 l. cold water, likewise the washed prunes.
The next day, put 1 1/2 l. of water on the fire, and when it boils, add the grains while stirring; cook over low heat for 1 1/2–2 hours.
Put the prunes on the fire separately in the water they have soaked in; add the sugar and cook slowly until tender.
When the grains are cooked, rub the soup through a colander, return it to the pot, add salt, and bring to a boil.
Turn the prunes out into the tureen or bowl, pour in the soup while stirring; add salt and more sugar to taste.
N.B. If the soup is too thick, add boiling water.
N.B. If you want to make it simpler, do not press the grains through a colander, but cook the prunes and the grains together.
N.B. Rice grains or sago grains may be used instead of oat grains.
