The apparatus comes with special glass jars with lids and rubber rings; the initial purchase is of course somewhat costly, about 30 kr.
The jars, lids and rubber rings are washed in warm soda water; the rubber rings must only lie in this for a couple of minutes, then they are dried on a cloth.
The jars and lids are rinsed in fresh water, and the cleaned fruit, vegetables or meat, prepared for canning, are packed in.
A great advantage of this method is that you can open a jar without using the entire contents at once; the jar's rims, lid and rubber ring are washed and dried, and the lid is put back on, after which the jar is heated in the apparatus to 80° C (175 °F); it can then be kept just as long as before the jar was opened; this can be repeated several times without the contents suffering in the slightest.
