From the revised edition of the Big Cookbook.

A hen is browned in butter and slowly roasted in the oven for 1 1/2 to 3 hours with diced carrot, onion, celery and leek, with tomatoes added at the end. Served with macaroni and grated cheese. From Erken's Stor kokebok (1949), p. 314.

This is a rustic pot dish suited to an older hen, which Erken recommends elsewhere in the chapter for stews. Macaroni with cheese is the accompaniment.
Prepare the hen
Dry the cleaned, soaked hen inside and out and salt it. Truss it.
Brown and add water
Brown the hen nicely in butter and add water.
Add vegetables
Clean the vegetables and cut them into cubes. Brown them in butter and add everything to the pot with the hen.
Cook slowly
Put the pot in a hot oven (about 200 °C (390 °F)) and cook gently until the hen is tender, 1 1/2 to 3 hours. Just before the hen is tender, add the tomatoes.
Serve
Carve the hen and arrange it on a warm dish. Pour the sauce with the vegetables over. Serve with boiled macaroni sprinkled with grated cheese.
"Hot oven" is interpreted as about 200 °C (390 °F). The original gives no quantities, so every ingredient except the hen is listed without an amount.
