Lingonberry Compote

Lingonberry compote: 1 l berries brought to a boil in 2½ dl water, 375 g sugar added, and simmered for a quarter of an hour before being filled into jars.

About the dish

"Grøt" here means a thick, coarsely cooked berry preserve without straining – lingonberry compote was used as an accompaniment to meat and to porridge and pancakes.

    Bring to a boil

    Bring the water to a boil and give the cleaned, washed berries a boil in it.

    Sugar and simmering

    Add the sugar and let the compote simmer for 15 minutes.

    Fill

    Fill the hot compote into jars and cover.
