Lingonberries in bottles: berries are boiled with water and strained into juice, selected berries are placed in clean, dry bottles, and the bottles are sealed with a cotton-wool plug and parchment paper. From Erken's Stor kokebok (1949), p. 725.
Source: Henriette Schønberg Erken, Stor kokebok, 1949-utg. s. 725 (falt i det fri)
An old preserving method where whole berries and juice are kept in bottles without modern lids.
Make juice
Boil the berries with the water and strain. Boil the juice as usual.
Fill bottles
Put selected, cleaned berries in clean, dry bottles.
Seal
Insert a plug of cleaned cotton wool and tie parchment paper over.
Note
The juice is to be poured over the berries; the text says only that it is boiled as usual. Use clean bottles and store cool. Discard the contents if mould appears or it smells fermented.
The original gives no quantities and says only that the juice is boiled "as usual". Food safety advice is added.
