Original 1914 recipe
Verbatim from the first edition of the Big Cookbook.

Erken's småbiff (a Norwegian leftover hash, similar to today's pyttipanne): cold roast and cold potatoes in small cubes browned crisp in butter and seasoned with salt, pepper, and finely chopped onion.

A simple leftover dish of cold roast and cold potatoes — Erken's version of what we today call pyttipanne (Nordic fried hash).
Cut up
Cut the cold roast and the cold potatoes into small cubes.
Brown in butter
Brown the cubes in the butter and stir until everything is crisp and brown.
Season
Add salt, pepper, and finely chopped onion to taste.
The original gives no quantities; here indicative amounts for four servings have been set.
