A simple frozen cream meant as an accompaniment to fresh strawberries – the forerunner of today's vanilla ice cream served with berries.

How to make it

    Mix

    Mix the cream, sugar and vanilla until the sugar is dissolved.

    Freeze

    Freeze the mixture in an ice cream maker, or in the freezer whisking every half hour. Serve with fresh strawberries.

Changes from the original

Vanilla powder can be replaced with vanilla sugar or the seeds of a vanilla pod; the freezing is described for an ice cream maker/freezer.
