Original 1914 recipe
Verbatim from the first edition of the Big Cookbook.

Pork Brine II without saltpeter: 10 l water and 4 kg salt are boiled, skimmed and cooled before the pork is placed in it.

A simple brine without saltpeter, used for pork that was to be used fairly soon, or where saltpeter was not wanted.
Boil the brine
Boil the water and salt together for a few minutes and skim well.
Cool
Let the brine become completely cold.
Lay down the pork
Place the pork in the brine so that it is covered.
