Original 1914 recipe
Verbatim from the first edition of the Big Cookbook.

Chard stalks without leaves are blanched 8 min in salted water (20 g/l), rinsed cold, placed in jars with a brine of 20 g salt per liter, and sterilized 60 minutes at 100 °C. A method for home-canning chard stalks as a winter vegetable.

Chard (leaf beet) was grown in Norwegian kitchen gardens, and the fleshy stalks were preserved as a vegetable for winter. From the chapter "Vegetables, preserved" in Stor kokebok (1914).
Clean the stalks
Remove the leaves from the stalks and rinse the stalks well.
Blanch
Blanch the stalks 8 minutes in salted water with 20 g salt per liter.
Cool
Rinse with cold water and place the stalks in jars.
Pour over brine
Pour over brine boiled from 20 g salt per liter of water.
Sterilize
Sterilize the jars at 100 °C (210 °F) for 60 minutes.
