Verbatim from the first edition of the Big Cookbook.

Erken's egg drink for invalids: egg yolk and sugar beaten for 10 minutes, blended with 2 tbsp warm milk, cooled, and topped up with about 2.5 dl seltzer in a glass.

From the chapter on nursing and invalid cookery, the section "Drinks." Such light, nourishing drinks were given to the sick who found it hard to eat solid food.
Beat the egg yolk
Beat the egg yolk and sugar together for 10 minutes until pale and thick.
Add the milk
Add the warm milk and keep beating until the mixture is completely cold.
Serve
Pour the mixture into a glass and top up with seltzer. Serve at once.
Measurements converted to modern deciliters and tablespoons/teaspoons. Seltzer = carbonated mineral water.
