Erken's method for boiling (sterilizing) milk for the sick: the milk is filled into a clean glass bottle with a cotton plug, boiled for 10 minutes in a water bath and kept cold, unopened.

A simple form of home sterilization of milk for the sick, described in the invalid-cookery chapter of «Stor kokebok» (1914). Before milk was pasteurized, such boiling in a bottle was a common precaution.
Fill the bottle
Pour the milk into a well-cleaned glass bottle with a narrow neck and insert a plug of cotton (cotton stopper).
Set in a water bath
Place the bottle in a pot of cold water reaching halfway up the bottle. Put a lid or a cloth over the pot.
Boil
Let the water boil for 10 minutes, then lift the pot off the burner.
Cool
Take the bottle out at once and keep the milk cold, without opening it until it is to be used.
No ingredient list exists in the original; the amount of milk is set to what the bottle holds (about 0.5 l). «Vatkork» is described as a wad of cotton in the modernized step text.
