Original 1914 recipe
Verbatim from the first edition of the Big Cookbook.

Velvet porridge (fløyelsgrøt) from 1914: 175 g butter is melted, 250 g flour is sifted in, thinned with about 2 l boiling milk, cooked 5 minutes, and salted.

"Fløielsgrøt" was a buttery porridge considered fine and smooth — the name refers to its velvet-soft consistency.
Melt the butter
Melt the butter in a pot.
Sprinkle in the flour
Sift the flour into the melted butter while stirring.
Thin and cook
Thin with the boiling milk little by little and let the porridge cook 5 minutes, stirring.
Salt
Season with salt and serve hot.
Measurements kept, but with modernized spelling in the ingredient list. The flour is sifted through a sieve instead of a colander.
