Revised 1949 recipe
From the revised edition of the Big Cookbook.

Finely shredded red cabbage stewed in water, lard, vinegar and a little sugar, then seasoned with salt and red wine. Good with roast duck or goose. From Erken's Stor kokebok (1949), p. 285.
Source: Henriette Schønberg Erken, Stor kokebok, 1949-utg. s. 285 (falt i det fri)
The red cabbage appears in the meat chapter, and Erken recommends it as an accompaniment to roast duck and goose.
Shred the cabbage
Cut the red cabbage into fine strips.
Stew
Mix the water, lard, vinegar and a little sugar in a pot and add the cabbage. Cook, stirring now and then so the cabbage does not catch.
Season
When the cabbage is tender, season with salt to taste and add the red wine.
Quantities are unchanged; the water is given as 5 dl. Vinegar and sugar are "to taste" because the original gives no amount.

Note on Modernised
Mengder er uendret; ½ l vann er skrevet som 5 dl. Eddik og sukker er «etter smak» fordi originalen ikke oppgir mengde.
